It saves lives. No one here is accustomed to such temps. St Louis has had several heatwaves. In the 90s it got soooo hot one year people were dying all over. That's when this program was set up. Ameren has a no disconnection rule on hot days. Local places have fans and some even window units for elderly, disable and people with kids. Cooling centers for anyone even homeless.

Everything is done to make sure what happened during I believe it was 95 or 96 never happens again.
