To the best of my knowledge you will NOT be able to go back without either serial port or RP/CRP to allow you to install an earlier firmware. The latest release blocks the downgrade "attack" so all that would happen if you put an old firmware in the root folder would be that it would be erased with an error message logged when you attempted to apply the update.

The JB will survive the update to the newer firmware, but you will need to install many of your enhancements again and any that depend upon a particular firmware level may break. If you do update you should probably install the update blocker as well for we have no guarantee that they might not take more aggressive measures against the JB in a future release.

I have kept 5.6.5 myself and have no plans to upgrade at this time.
