I've still got my old Keyboard Kindle, and both first and second generation paperweights, one of which belongs to my husband. I recently got a Voyage. I've just done a side by side comparison. The second generation paperwhite and the Voyage are certainly the winners on screen quality, so either would work for you. Personally I like the Voyage automatic light setting and the flat bezel, not sure yet about the page turn buttons.
One thing to consider is the 3g option. I travel a lot, and if I only had WiFi I would have to think much harder about my reading choices before leaving home. Especially as my phone data only works for "free" inside Europe, so using the phone as a WiFi hotspot can prove expensive.
I don't buy all my books from Amazon, but I can still put the others in their cloud, which is a useful feature.
This way I can leave only a few books (± 100) on the device and just grab my next choice when ready, if I feel like something different. Yes, it's subjective, but seems to work better that way.
