Three Seconds by Anders Roslund and Börge Hellström is $1.99 (local dollars) at AU/CA/NZ/US retailers.

(The sequel Three Minutes is due out later this month, which is probably why Three Seconds is discounted now.)

It is a Swedish crime/thriller, part of a series, but apart from reading Three Seconds before Three Minutes I don't think it matters too much in which order you read the others, each book is quite different and Three Seconds is probably as good a place to start as any.

I've read all of the series that have been translated into English so far and liked them a lot, but the writing style is not quite typical of the genre and took a bit of getting used to. In some of the books you see a lot from the offender's viewpoint rather than just the investigator's.
