Question Moving between Fire OS 4 and Fire OS 5?

Hello all

A few months ago I bought a brand new/ unused 2014-generation Fire HDX 8.9 on eBay. It ran Fire OS 4 out of the box but automatically updated to Fire OS 5 after a couple of days. However, I then noticed in the settings section of the 'Manage Your Content and Devices' page that the option to go back to Fire OS 4 was still available. I selected this, because I much prefer the old carousel interface and let's be honest, Fire OS 5 is a bland Android clone.
However, I am no wondering what would happen if I did decide to go up to 5 to try out some of the new features such as Alexa, for example. Would the option to go back to 4 still be there or would this a one way trip?
Any input gratefully received. And before anyone tells me to ask Amazon: I've tried, believe me. But I just end talking to bored call centre operatives in Asia with a shaky command of English. They panic because I've gone off script, don't listen to word I've said and just keep roboticly repeating the same phrases from their support scripts at me until I get bored and go away
