I have a Glo whose light stopped working after a little more than two years of heavy use. Nothing I could do could get it working. It wasn't the button as the light icon would toggle when I pressed the button. I opened it and couldn't see any physical damage and reseating cables didn't change anything. Running some commands, with help from a very good source, via telnet showed the software thought the light was working, so it has to be something in the hardware.
About the only thing I do know about the light failing was that it had nothing to do with a firmware change. I'm not exactly gentle with my ereaders, but I couldn't think of any sort of incident happening between when the light worked (reading in bed one night), and when it didn't (trying to read in bed the next night). It is also not a common problem as I'm not sure I have seen another report.
As to what you can do, the only think I can think of is to check all the cables are all plugged in properly, the button is being pressed properly and that there is no obvious damage to anything on the board.
