In this case, that of a KT - the "Reset (to factory defaults)" will only erase the visible and hidden user storage areas.
It is running a firmware version that can always be jail broken (again) if that is desired.
And the "Reset" would ensure there isn't anything strange left behind in the hidden database files.

Dig around on the 'Manage Device and Content' web page of the account this device is registered with.
Oops - I forgot to ask, this device is registered, isn't it?
That also could be part of the problem if it is not registered (no external account that it can reach).
