Found a place to cancel setting up the kindle, chose that, so supposedly it's not personalized now. However the "Update You Kindle" option is greyed out.

Then again, you may not be at the step I thought you were at. If you have a *.bin file, perhaps zips (and "tar balls") may not be the issue. Which number step are you stuck on? Using the numbers in post #1 in this thread.
If you DO have a file named *.bin, but the kindle isn't letting you "update this kindle" .... are we sure it's the RIGHT bin file? They only work for the correct model, so having the wrong one may give this same problem.
