I haven't read this - but maybe a year ago there was a segment on 60 Minutes about fraudulent olive oil from Italy. The mafia has infiltrated the Italian olive oil industry. Chances are, anything you buy claiming to be "extra virgin olive oil" from Italy isn't what it claims to be. It is either a lower grade of olive oil, or some other type of oil (safflower oil maybe) with green food color added to look like olive oil.
We started buying olive oil from California after watching that.
