The newest thing in the Amazon firmware is how it tries to keep the Kindle and the 'Kindle Cloud' part of your account in-sync.

You can't just dump 2,000 books on the Kindle and at the same time prevent it from trying to sync with your account's Kindle Cloud.

In fact, the 1,000 book limit might still be in effect.

The above behavior is one of the changes they have made since they introduced being able to manage your collections from your Amazon account.
