The first thing to do is to register the Kindle.

Is this a "Special Offers" (ad supported) Kindle?

There was also an unusual amount of uploading going on, and to a location I do not recognize as part of Amazon.
That will take some research time (best done by someone running 5.8.9.2 - not I).

If your Wifi router has the ability to log connection destination IP and/or name - -
Turn that feature on - we may need those logs if this is indeed a "Bot" running.

And while we are thinking about this, you be thinking of how you can run WireShark on the connection (that depends on how you have your networking equipment set-up).

* There have been other reports of Kindles that restart by themselves frequently, but this is the first attempt at documenting what is happening.
