Converting a trade paperback

Hi 8) There's a free e-book available at http://www.randomstatic.net/newtonssleep.php in pdf format, but it's essentially a direct copy of the trade paperback print edition, and it appears that the current pdf doesn't work too well on at least some reader devices - I'm guessing at least in part because the pages are too big. Is there a standard size for e-book pages?

I understand the original only exists in TeX format (more precisely XeTex, for the OpenType support); what other e-book formats is it possible to convert to from PDF or TeX? And which are worth doing, to minimise the number of formats while maximising compatibility with the widest range of readers?

Thanks!
