I've found for reading in a dark room, a wider line spacing is helpful as I turn the screen light down. I can usually turn the light down a little more the longer I read. But the wider line spacing creates more white space around the text which helps with contrast.
When I was using a Paperwhite I started at about 9-10, and ended up with the light at 4-5 if I read more than 20 minutes. On my Kobo, I end up at about 9%.
