Could be. Check out calbre's Convert dialog under the "MOBI output" (visible only when converter to MOBI) and note the "Personal Doc tag" field. This can impact how a Kindle sorts its files. I'm not an authority on what works with what device or app, but there are a number of threads on MR that discus the [EBOK] and [PDOC] tags. Also, as I understand it, how the ebook was moved to the device has influence on how the Kindle sorts it.

Typos are not the fault of the format or the reader. Formatting might be the readers "fault", but is also very likely the fault of the person who created the document.
