After dropping and cracking the screen on my iPad Air 2, I did buy Apple Care for my iPad Pro 12.9"
I'm not generally someone who buys extended warranties. But an iPad Pro isn't in the same category as most devices.
That said, I would not carry it to read on. I would carry my Kobo if I had to ride a bus everyday, or just read on my phone.
