I’m a little surprised: shouldn’t there be far more interest for a slightly lengthy series of novels, without a real plot, with vast stretches of larmoyant, essayistic navel-gazing, situated in the obsolete world of the French aristocracy, told from the perspective of a snob? Come on, guys and gals, this one’s a page turner.
