It was fun. How could an alt-history hippopotamus western not be? I question whether the western genre was chosen as an homage or for mockery, but I can take a joke.
I found the prose a little bit too purple at times, but that may have been intentional given the genre. The gender obfuscation of a particular character confused me more than it intrigued me. The sentences that used they/their/themself instead of typical gendered pronouns just made the narrative concerning that character difficult for me to follow. I don't mind experimentation, but I don't enjoy having to reread sentences two and three times to figure out what is being said. But as I mentioned: it was fun. I'll probably read the next one.
