I once had a meeting at someone's house where the dining room was filled floor to ceiling with bookshelves filled with hardcovers, and I told her I had a question about her books, (actually about the bookshelves) and she replied "No I have read them all." before I could even ask my question. I laughed because I knew from personal experience that was rather unlikely for her to have read even a majority of them, and then got into a discussion about the bookshelves.
I understand your friend completely.
The question I get frequently is "Do you cook?"
Now I will say, I probably won't ever make anything from the roadkill cookbooks, and I seriously doubt I will ever might the title recipe from Elephant Stew.
Some of the older ones, I don't touch very often. The rest, yes I do use them.
Favorite general cookbook is Good Housekeeping Illustrated Cookbook.

Now you have all the answers to the FAQ.
