I have always found it amazing that stories about commercial fishing differ so little over time. There are changes in technology, scale, and availability of fish (or lack of availability.) Melville's
Moby Dick has remained a favorite for years. The key I think is that they are not just about the act of fishing, they are about the people that fish. Here is
Tales of the Fish Patrol, a collection of Jack London stories that include:
- WHITE AND YELLOW
- THE KING OF THE GREEKS
- A RAID ON THE OYSTER PIRATES
- THE SIEGE OF THE “LANCASHIRE QUEEN”
- CHARLEY’S COUP
- DEMETRIOS CONTOS
- YELLOW HANDKERCHIEF
