We have had Aldi's for at least 15 years, if not longer. The first one was small, with mostly canned and frozen stuff, and very limited produce. The newer locations are much more full service type grocery stores. I'm positive of the time frame, because I bought 20 pounds of potatoes at one to make dinner for a bunch of college friends of our sons, back in 2002.

There were also Aldi's that had electronics, computers, etc.
