The main kitchen outlet is a GFI outlet. I read somewhere that it's not a good idea to use power strips with those. My info could be incorrect though.

I just looked that up. You can use a power strip but if you use one with a surge protector and it surges, it can trip the GF I button.
So a cheap power strip is fine. A surge protector is not such a wise idea.

I put a power strip in my kitchen. Actually I have 2. But they are connected to different breakers. One is by the refrigerator and the other one is on the cabinet. It is for the toaster and toaster oven. More for short cords than outlets.
