Today is the last day the Aboriginal Art Museum next door is open. Earlier this week one of the volunteers told me that most of the artworks, except those on display at the moment, had already been picked up.

She didn't know who will take over the building. Almost everybody on the block is slightly nervous about the next occupants; because most of the bedrooms on the block are at the back of the buildings (too noisy in the city center to sleep at the front). It's a big building, but very compartmentalized. Before the museum there was a sort of bank in the building and before that the local newspaper had its offices there.

Best would be if another museum or art gallery would move in. Worst would be if a restaurant or café would move in. Eventhough the council is very strict about cafés and restaurants using their garden to put tables and chairs there when the weather's nice. A neighbour is afraid it will be converted in a hotel, that wouldn't be too bad IMHO. Yes, they would most likely have a café and/or restaurant on the ground floor, but they wouldn't want to disturb their own guests at night with noise.

We'll see. The only thing I hope is that when they've removed all the artwork they remember to switch off the airconditioning. I wouldn't want one starting to rattle (which happens usually during summer) when nobody can be contacted to get it fixed.
