Probably the PIN is a reasonable idea.
It's not hard to do, so baffling it wasn't on their first device from day 1.
It doesn't STOP your device being stolen, so I'd think of it more as a privacy thing. Kobo don't have any payment option for me so the stored account is of no value at all.
The Kindle is more of an issue.
I discovered how to stop Amazon storing Credit Card and even block the max purchase setting.
Make a trivial edit to Amazon address after every online web purchase. Then Credit Card has to be re-entered at next purchase!
I wish I could setup Kindle with Amazon account that had no payment option.
IMO it's abusive that that you buy an eReader and have to create an account with a Corporate entity (even if in case of Android and Kobo you can just give them a specially created email address), even to put your OWN written documents or public domain texts.
I certainly don't use Adobe Digital Editions (Spyware!).
I download Amazon eBooks to PC, like I do with Smashwords.
