I'm not sure there's as much need for an impact-absorbing case as there is on an eInk device: the iPad is a lot tougher than an eInk reader with its thin glass screen substrate.

Not so much slim in my case, as light. I want a cover that's permanently on my iPad, and I want it to be as lightweight as possible. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I bought a keyboard cover for my iPad Pro, but returned it because I found that it made the iPad too heavy to comfortably hold while reading.
Given that I've had to replace the screen on my niece and nephew's iPhones 3 times in the last year and a half because they dropped the phone and cracked the screen, I think that impact-absorbing cases are a good thing for iDevices.
