The main storage is assigned as the F drive, but can't be used? That is almost definitely the computer. The simplest proof is using another computer.

Anything I can think of that could cause this should display an error message when you connect the device. If the Windows is seeing the main memory, what is it seeing it as? What does device manager or disk manager show? Something that can help with USB connection problems is to use USBDeview to remove all the KoboReader instances. Then reboot and try to connect.
