I put away a little money every month, with rare exceptions. I also put something away for gadgets every month. My Visa card is a debit card. I no longer own a credit card and haven't since I retired. I spend my money very carefully. I have to. I do spend it but only if I have it to spend.
Deciding what to buy and when and how is one of the ways I entertain myself these days.
