Think of it as gossip.
When news are slow gossip fills the vacuum.
Inquiring minds and all that.

Besides, a lot of the gossip *is* publishing-related, directly or iindirectly. Like the Echo, Fire TV, Prime, and pricing/shipping articles. For the rest of the non-ebook pieces, well, Amazon casts a big shadow in publishing, with vocal detractors wishing they would vanish in a puff of smoke and brimstone, and others just surprised/impressed that a company that started by exploiting publishing's distributor "float" has gotten so big just by finding and exploiting competitors' inefficiencies and irrationalities.
They do so many odd things they generate gossip just by existing.
