I have two Paperwhite 3 Kindles, my favorite Kindle, and so far I've had no problem.
If the reset doesn't do it, I'd contact Kindle Support.

The OP said the device had the jailbreak. At this time, one does not want to factory reset a jailbroken kindle if they wish to keep the jailbreak.
Now to the OP, put it on a wall charger for 24 hours or longer.
Then restart it by holding the power button for about 40 seconds.
