My old kobo h2o made it fine in hold luggage back from Turkey last weekend. It's in a gecko case, which I put in a padded envelope and further wrapped in a bit of bubble wrap which went in a towel in the middle of the suitcase. It wasn't a hard case.
There were some problems at the airport though. I'll need the first security queue the guy in front of us got pulled with his iPad in his cabin bag. Then at the check in desk, we saw three people arguing with staff about not being able to take power banks and portable chargers on the plane at all. To be be fair, that part hasn't received as much publicity as the laptop/tablet ban, but I'd seen it on a Web site.
One passenger got as far as final security with her lipstick sized power bank. The staff at the gate had a template, and if your device didn't go through the holes, you weren't getting through with it. She kicked up a proper stink, saying that her device was legal. Of course, you won't win in a situation like that. I saw her get lead away after an age of argument. I think they let her on the plane, but not with the charger.
