As I recall the signs they put up in T5 actually said Kindle rather than something more generic. I stopped traveling with both an ereader and tablet after that because it was too awkward to get everything out plus a laptop and remove coats etc. I can't remember if the rule was still in effect last time I went through Heathrow. One time when I went through Manchester the guy next to me had his iPad stolen because your stuff goes through the belt faster than you can through the scanners, and it was an easy target not being inside a bag.

I was at Heathrow earlier this month. I didn't take out my Reader. I did take out my Surface Pro 2. I've never been asked to take anything out but a tablet or laptop. I'll be flying in the US in June, so I'll see what happens.
