I received the Max Carta a few days ago. I wish to review:
-- the good: it is arguably the best money can currently buy;
-- the bad: although it could theoretically be better;
-- the best: and in time it will be improved.
I had a problem with the screen impact: contrary to past products, I have a too clear perception of the individual pixels (hence, in font rendering, of jaggedness and of contrast distribution). The T68 and i86 screens have better effect. I am not sure if this is because of the lower density, or if it is because of a lack of a further layer (e.g. the capacitive screen) on top of the main EPD screen. I would have tried placing a matte film on top (which IS also in general a good idea) - but it is not clear how to do it, it is not standard practice if not on glass. On the other hand, the effect is not that patent if I keep the tablet at "desk" distance (30+ cm) instead of "hold" distance. I guess it is a healthy alarm reminding not to touch the screen with my nose.
For the rest, it is quite something. You may miss the capacitive touch/multitouch, but it is nice to be able to use precision with the electromagnetic pen. The screen looks enormous, and that extra real estate does mean more productivity. Office automation work would be quite comfortable thanks to the screen, although responsiveness is still not that of past firmwares (the T68 was an almost desktop like experience). Oddly enough, typing (Bluetooth keyboard) in normal fields has lightning fast responsiveness, so there may be something related to the interaction of Kingsoft and the firmware. For PDF, I tested ezPDF Reader and I was very impressed - I posted a video demonstration in a relevant parallel thread.
The battery seems amazing: I watched a 30 mins video today using a mere 10% of battery. I thought the EPD screen would drain it - instead OLED based devices seem to consume much more (I also believe that the processors drained as much as the screen: this A2 is an engineering masterpiece).
I noticed a couple of minor oddities here and there in the firmware behaviour, but nothing crippling, just strange events (from time to time the cursor jumps to the bottom of the page in Kingsoft Office and makes a minimal selection?!?)
It was a very pleasing, productive afternoon.
