And, if you remove all the icons from the tool bars you won't see any icons. For a barebones minimalist interface just add Preferences to the main Menu bar .

I access everything I need via keyboard shortcuts and/or the book list context menu. The only reason I have the menu bar is because calibre mandates that Preferences must be in the main tool bar or menu bar.
