It may be possible that multiple updates are getting crossed in the ether

And that the 4.4.3944 update had issues with the KA1 which did/did not seem to get its own replacement which was only slightly different in size...

I think I'll wait this update out, the issues it fixes, SD cards needing to be named to be seen by the Kobo, and downloaded kepubs not being marked as finished when they're done don't affect me. However the issue of not being able to use my KA1 would affect me.
