Bargain @ 99 cents each from assorted HarperCollins imprints in Canada & presumably also the US (should be the same price in all the usual stores):
  • Nightwalker by Jocelynn Drake (ISFDB), 1st in her Dark Days series of urban fantasy (may contain paranormal romance elements) starring Mira, a centuries-old enforcer with elemental powers, working for the obligatory shadowy organization.
  • Grudging by Michelle Hauck (ISFDB), 1st in her Birth of Saints fantasy trilogy where a land invaded by cruel northerners turns to the witches of the south for help, out from Harper Voyager Impulse, a dedicated sfnal imprint whose name brings ThunderCougarFalconBird Futurama to mind. The blurb compares it to Ellen Kushner and Django Wexler, so I will be disappointed if there isn't some kind of epic rebellious backstabbing mannerpunk mashup in a city with no name going on.
