@Adam of Bremen - Because your post had nothing really to do with beta testing version 3.0, I moved it and eschwartz' response to the Library Management forum.

In addition to previous suggestions, you can also add additional format files to an existing book by drag-dropping the file into the book details panel, or into the Edit Metadata Formats box. And the Preferences->Add Books->The adding process tab has specific settings that can be used to control auto-merging. Most of these have been available in calibre for many years.

It comes as no surprise that Libre Office Writer can convert ODT, its native format, to PDF better than calibre. Apart from the fact that ODT is native to LO they are both fixed format page oriented formats, where as most e-books, which is what calibre primarily targets, are continuous flow oriented formats.

AFAIK, because the database and library folders don't change the performance of version 3.0 should be indistinguishable from version 2.nn. I can't discern any difference between 2.85 and the beta on my major libraries that range from ~4,000 to ~120,000 books.
