I know that something in the instructions by the library, or maybe somewhere else, told me that I had to install it. Maybe they were wrong. I went through several computers since I first started borrowing ebooks and audiobooks from libraries, but I suppose that I just installed OverDrive as a matter of course, when setting up the computers, and didn't think about it. Maybe if I hadn't installed OverDrive, I would have had to install ADE?
Anyway everything works. And there's a saying here in the Deep South, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" (the rest of it goes, "if it is broke, fix it. If you can't fix it, paint it.")
