As it turns out, the one OA book that I was interested in is not free.
I hope that the day comes when an OA item is universally, by definition, free. There are still some, like MUP, apparently, which use that term in a broader sense. In fact, I don't see any difference to the customer in an OA and non-OA book at the MUP website. There almost certainly are differences in how publication is funded and things like that. There is probably something on this MUP webpage which will clue people in to what the differences are, in their way of thinking. I lack the interest in reading any of it.
So, I think that the upshot is, practically speaking, that there are 9 books at MUP that are currently designated as "Open Access." At least one of those, and possibly others, are free. If you are interested in seeing if an item among those OA items is free, check the book's webpage. |
Then are at least 25 books that are downloadable as PDF (that I got). In fact, I only ran across 3 or 4 that you could read but not download. Naturally, 2 of those looked really interesting. There are more, but I got tired of scrolling thru the pages.
