Sue, The first thing I'd try is to completely recharge the battery. Use the AC charger since the USB will not charge if the battery is nearly or completely discharged.

One of the peculiarities of eink is that the display still shows when the battery is flat or nearly so. You can still get some "apparent activity" with an extremely low battery but there may not be enough charge to effectively do something. This has happened to me and it is confusing.

P.S. It could be that the battery has gone bad and will not take a proper charge. If so you'll have to have it replaced.
