But it does not appear to address the issue I'm facing. I had more than 10,000 books in my library, and the "Calibre Library" folder, which previously contained hundreds of folders and was several gigabytes in size, is now empty except for metadata.db etc.

If I do a search for all epub files on my hard drive, it returns nothing. My books are gone.

I am pretty certain that I am SOL, but I would like to know what went wrong, and how I can stop it from happening in the future.

Any ideas?

I'm on a PC using Windows 10.
No idea what could have gone wrong. Which version of Windows 10, I'm on 1511 and have had no problems.

Are you sure the library was there immediately prior to installing 2.83? Did you do any other software updates around that time e.g. Windows Creator Update. Perhaps your libraries are in another user account.

There are almost 2 million active calibre users, more than 20% of them are using version 2.83, and 80+% of calibre users are on Windows something, see ==>> calibre - Usage Statistics. If your problem was widespread this forum would be swamped with 'complaints' - thankfully its not

How to prevent in future? Regular backups is the only way I know of. I do daily incremental backups to a USB3.0 connected drive of all my 'regular' data (documents, books, images, video clips, email etc) and selected 'system' data (e.g. calibre config, browser profiles etc). It usually takes about five minutes, longer if I downloaded/created something huge.

What did you use to do the search for epubs?
