I'm lucky in a few respects. There's no current fiction that matters to me, whether series or standalone, so I don't have that compulsion. The drying up of Kobo coupons also has helped as my wishlist books tend to require a deep discount. (My purchases this year reflect a couple of coupons that did work as well as some Google promotions.) And my accounting differs from yours in that I only count cash outlay, so credit at Amazon, Google and B&N didn't count as expenditure, although I count the books acquired thereby as purchased.
