She died at an early age (63, I think). I wondered if the malnutrition might have contributed to that, too. Maybe no doctor could say definitively.
Believe it or not, during the siege of Leningrad, the suffering from hunger and malnutrition was even worse. There was quite a bit about that in a biography that I read about composer Shostakovich.
