You've probably know this but...
When you sync, the device looks for firmware updates. I think syncing happens automatically when you setup the device and certainly when you have automatic sync turned on, but you might want to try manually forcing a sync again (on the home screen, it's that icon between the battery and search icons, at least my home screen anyway)
Also if you really wanted to you could install the latest firmware via USB but I'd be reluctant to do that on my new KA1
