No. However, (and as you probably already noticed) you can set the thumbnail to "small", which makes it take approximately the same vertical space as the text.

You might also try putting the cover on the right (Settings / Customize the book list / Show thumbnails on right). This doesn't save space but it does align the text on the left edge.
