Kindle. Collections. tags, and searches...

I know that Calibre can't manage collections on the Kindle without an add-on, that requires jail breaking the Kindle, which I don't want to do.

I was thinking about the following idea. There are apparently no data fields available for user tagging of books on the Kindle. Perhaps Calibre could add a tag to the book title that would allow me to search on the Kindle - for example "tag:scifi" appended to the book title

Calibre could either automatically tag each title when it synced with the Kindle using the existing tags Calibre already stores for each book, or could have a special tag field (column) that us user supplied, and appends this to the book title on the way out to the Kindle.

It's not exactly collections, but a search on the Kindle for "tag:scifi" would get similar results.

Is there a way to do this?? Maybe an existing Calibre plug-in I've never heard of??

thnx,

.
