Do I need to set up ADE on a Kobo?

Just ordered a Kobo for the first time (Kindle owner). I plan to use overdrive for library books, along with books from places like Gutenberg, and probably a few from the Kobo store. I've seen a few places talk about setting up ADE, and I'm trying to figure out what advantages and/or disadvantages I would get from setting up ADE. Is it something I should set up when I get the Kobo? Is it better to wait until I have a use case where I need it? Should it be avoided at all costs?

Thanks!
