When you buy a Kindle, there's a selector on the ordering page saying "With Special Offers" and "Without Special Offers", allowing you to choose whether you prefer to buy a discounted advertising-supported model, or a non-discounted ad-free model. Entirely your choice. If you choose to buy the advertising-supported model at a discount, you can later repay the discount you received and remove the ads. This isn't "bare-faced cheek" at all; it's a choice freely and openly offered to all purchasers.
