Since you did a reset, and are now at 5.8.9, yes, you are hosed. You can't jailbreak from 5.8.9.

BUT ... earlier, when you said "the jailbreak did not survive" .... you do realize that after any update, you must re-install all the tools you want to use? *Only* the hidden-to-you actual jailbreak survives. If you did not reinstall your KUAL or screensaver hack, or whatever you use -- then you do not actually know if the jailbreak was present.

But that reset --- yeah, that removed the jailbreak. And there's no reversing now, since 5.8.8 or 5.8.9 cannot (yet?) be jailbroken.

Dunno if this clarifies or not, but I thought I'd try .....
