If you're not in a hurry, you might like to wait till the next Kobo announcement? Some people love their KA1s, but others seem to be wrangling with rev. 1 type issues that will hopefully be worked out with the next device.
(I suspect what is being spoken about with 'lag', though is that epub page turns are slower than kepub. This can be solved by converting your books to kepub.)
