Short answer, yes in my case it can be done, no idea if it's safe.
I recently updated to 4.3.8966 with my H2O, (although I think there's been an even more recent update. Anyway, yesterday, throwing caution to the wind, I added a couple of lines in the reader's config file, resulting in the option in the reading settings to go full screen. That worked, but I then experienced the clipping of letters on the right side (which apparently is a known and expected bug with kepubs). The workaround I used was to add a css file in the root directory which adjusts the margins when you use Calibre and the extended kobo driver (with Modify option set) to send kepubs to H2O. (I understand there isn't a clipping problem if you just use epubs rather than kepubs.)
Now, I'd give you details about all that except I'm a "hacker novice" and I really don't know if I did any of it correctly. Just picked up scraps from various threads here...

Christian Szell: Is it safe?... Is it safe?
Babe: You're talking to me?
Christian Szell: Is it safe?
Babe: Is what safe?
Christian Szell: Is it safe?
Babe: I don't know what you mean. I can't tell you something's safe or not, unless I know specifically what you're talking about.
Christian Szell: Is it safe?
Babe: Tell me what the "it" refers to.
Christian Szell: Is it safe?
Babe: Yes, it's safe, it's very safe, it's so safe you wouldn't believe it.
Christian Szell: Is it safe?
Babe: No. It's not safe, it's... very dangerous, be careful.
