They are right. It doesn't sound like your Kobo is broken. I haven't researched it, because my Kobo has connected to my Win 10 PC flawlessly. But several users have had issues connecting their Kobos to Windows 10 machines. If that's your only problem, you likely don't need a new device.

Have you posted about it in the Kobo section?
